Excitement is building at TNC Community as construction progresses on our new TNC Training Academy — a transformative space designed to prepare individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for meaningful employment in the community.

Located next door to TNC Community headquarters on 40 Highway near 291 Highway in Independence, MO, this academy represents the next chapter in expanding opportunity.

A Purpose-Driven Space

What was once an unfinished space is now becoming something far greater: a dedicated training environment built specifically to equip individuals with practical, real-world job skills.

The vision is clear. This will soon be a hands-on learning space where individuals with disabilities can gain valuable experience and build confidence to prepare for and succeed in competitive employment.

Building Skills That Employers Need

The TNC Training Academy will focus on in-demand industries such as:
  • Food service
  • Hospitality
  • Customer service
  • Cleaning/housekeeping
  • Janitorial services

Participants will receive structured instruction in workplace expectations, customer service, teamwork, safety practices, and task-specific competencies. These are transferable skills that open doors across industries throughout the Kansas City region.

This is more than job training. It is preparation for independence, contribution, and belonging.

The Need Is Real And Immediate

There is already a waiting list of individuals eager to participate.

At the same time, recent funding cuts have made community investment more important than ever. Public funding alone will not bring this Academy to life. Community support is essential to complete the buildout and launch programming later this year.
