March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Did you know developmental disabilities are those occurring from birth through the first few years of development, and usually last someone’s entire life?  Common developmental disabilities include autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and ADHD.

The theme for this year’s DD Awareness Month is “Beyond the Conversation” (nacdd.org).  Discussions around people with disabilities are crucial, often paving the way for great cultural shifts.  However, what happens after discussions have taken place?  This month we emphasize creative action leading to positive change, directly benefitting individuals with DD across communities.  The time for talking is over, it is now time for us to act to create change.

TNC Community has championed equity and inclusion for individuals with disabilities since our founding in 1949.  Ninety-seven percent of our individuals have developmental disabilities, and 74% have more than one.  We provide top-notch, customized services and cultivate loving care to ensure the happiest, healthiest lives of individuals with IDD who rely on us 24-hours-a-day, every day for a stable home, consistent healthcare, and access to the community.
